With Cam Newton performing admirably well in his first two games with the New England Patriots, many have begun looking forward to what he could command as a free agent in 2021. If Newton continues to play well and he stays healthy, he could ‘easily' earn $25 million per year in free agency, per The Athletic's Michael Lombardi.

After signing him to an incentive-laden one-year deal this offseason, the Patriots have to be content with how Newton has looked thus far. The former NFL MVP has completed 71.4 percent of his passes for 552 yards and one touchdown.
Also, the veteran QB has given the Patriots the luxury of utilizing him in the running game — something that wasn't possible with Tom Brady. Through New England's first two contests, Newton has rushed for 122 yards and four touchdowns.
Everyone knows how talented Newton is and how dominant he can be when he's healthy. However, his health has been the issue in recent seasons, with him missing 16 games in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Many believe that the Patriots signed Newton as a one-year rental before he hits free agency in 2021. But if Newton continues to thrive under Josh McDaniels, it's going to be hard for New England to let him walk. Even though the Patriots have been hesitant on paying quarterbacks, Lombardi believes the Patriots need to make an exception.

It’s called the cost of doing business,” Lombardi said. “You’re not going to get guys to take a discounted deal at that number. Look, Jared Goff’s making 33 million — you’re going to get Cam Newton for 8 million less than Jared Goff? I wouldn’t trade Cam Newton for Jared Goff.”
Newton has looked rejuvenated in his short time in Foxborough, playing with a chip on his shoulder. Barring his health, whether it be with the Patriots or elsewhere, Newton is poised to receive a generous payday next offseason.
