The New York Jets Week 16 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars gave the fans an insight into what this team is capable of. Although it's been a troublesome year, New York has plenty to look forward to in the future. We take a look at this Jets-Jaguars game with some of our Jets Week 16 takeaways in mind.

New York's defense is much better than most give them credit for. The secondary has been good all year while the front seven has struggled to slow down the run game. Look for the Jets' front office to make some changes to the defense, as they could become a real problem next season.

The offense is nearly in the same boat as the defense. An offseason to work together will do wonders for this franchise. In their game against the Jaguars, the Jets proved they have some valuable pieces to build around. One of those weapons is Braxton Berrios, as he's proved to be a reliable pass option. Additionally, Zach Wilson flashed potential on Sunday, making him look like the real deal.

With that said, here are three Jets Week 16 takeaways from their matchup against the Jaguars.

Jets Week 16 Takeaways

3. The defense is a few pieces away from becoming a real threat

The Jets are going to benefit this offseason as this young core will improve and play better next year. With Robert Saleh being a defensive-minded head coach, we should see the front office make some moves to improve the front seven.

This defense has caused problems for opponents all year. However, if the front office can acquire some key pieces within the front seven, the Jets could have a top-tier defense on their hands. After watching them torment the Jaguars, fans should feel confident about the direction this team is heading.

2. Braxton Berrios deserves a key role next year

As injuries have hobbled the Jets' wide receiver room, Braxton Berrios has stepped up anytime his number is called. He's been reliable in the passing game and provides a boost to the return team as well. Berrios is the exact type of player New York needs right now.

It'll be interesting to see how the offseason plays out. However, there is reason to believe that Berrios can become a reliable slot receiver for the Jets. Between him, Elijah Moore, and Corey Davis, the Jets might already have their receiving core figured out for next year. Look for Berrios to keep playing at a high level to finish out this season.

1. Zach Wilson has a bright future in New York

All of the rookie quarterbacks have struggled this year, but at least Zach Wilson has strung together some strong performances. He looked spectacular against the Jaguars, scrambling for big gains, and picking apart the secondary at will. It's safe to say, the future looks bright for the Jets young quarterback.

Most of the issues he's had this season have come at the expense of his teammates. Either the offensive line fails to protect him, or the receivers drop numerous passes. An offseason to work alongside his receiving group will work wonders for Wilson's development. We should hopefully see the Jets' front office strengthen the offensive line. If they do, New York should be well on their way to an improved campaign in 2022.
