The New York Jets haven't made a whole lot of big moves this offseason. But they are making some shrewd signings with their available cap space.
On Friday, they kept one of their own, re-signing linebacker Neville Hewitt on a one-year, $2 million deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Hewitt has spent the last couple of seasons with the Jets and is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he played 12 games. He registered 75 tackles, three sacks, a couple of interceptions and five passes defended in what was the most productive season of his career.
The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Marshall, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Miami Dolphins in 2015.
Hewitt appeared in 15 contests during his rookie season, finishing with 39 tackles and a pick in a reserve role. The following year, Hewitt participated in every game and made five starts, totaling 64 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

That ensuing offseason, Hewitt signed a one-year deal with New York. In his first year with the club, he appeared in every contest and made four starts, recording 39 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Gang Green then proceeded to re-sign the Conyers, Ga. native on a one-year deal last March, so this actually marks Hewitt's third straight one-year contract with the Jets.
New York was expected by many to be a playoff contender in 2019. But instead, the Jets went just 7-9. They have not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 campaign.
