The relationship between the New York Jets and safety Jamal Adams is turning “ugly” with the latter wanting to bolt out of the team via trade.

Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, both parties seem to be on the opposite ends of the spectrum. Adams wants to be traded while the Jets have no intention of granting his request.

Adams entered the spotlight a few days ago, he hinted that “maybe it's time to move on,” criticizing the Jets' antics in their contract negotiations. The 24-year-old's current contract runs up until 2021. However, he has made it clear that he wants a new contract by the end of the season.

“Ima protect myself just like an organization will look out for themselves at the end of the day. & if you guys don't respect that, cool. It's all luv. Maybe it's time to move on!”

But the tension seems have started in the trade deadline last fall. The Jets reportedly placed Adams on the trade block. More specifically, the team was looking for a first-round pick and two second rounders in exchange for the safety. This annoyed Adams since the management made him feel untouchable.

The Jets, for their part, seem hesitant in addressing Adams' contract concerns. As for one, they own his rights for another two years, which includes a potential franchise tag in 2022. Second, his contract isn't too heavy on the cap space: $3.5 million this season, $9.9 million in 2021. The latter is the amount of his fifth-year option. But Adams seems to have figured this out. And he wants to either get paid or be traded.
