It is no secret that the Green Bay Packers endured a disappointing year. Their campaign essentially ended when quarterback Aaron Rodgers went down for the bulk of the year.
However, there are many who believe Rodgers is poised for quite a comeback. He was recently pegged by ESPN as the favorite to win the NFL's MVP award in 2018, via ESPN's Field Yates:
This is a quarterback-driven award and at his apex, Rodgers is as good as it gets. He was on pace for an MVP season before an injury last year and should pick up where he left off. That's good news for football fans (and bad news for NFC North defenses).
There is certainly good reason to be optimistic about Rodgers' chances this year.
Article Continues BelowNot only is he coming off an injury-plagued season, but Green Bay's recent shortcomings have raised speculation as to whether or not the window for a championship is beginning to close. That said, the gunslinger may have a chip on his shoulder coming into the 2018 campaign.
When healthy, there is no doubt that Rodgers is the most talented quarterback in the NFL. However, there has been some question regarding whether his supporting cast is viable enough to support a run to the Super Bowl. Not to mention, the loss of his favorite wide receiver in Jordy Nelson this offseason.
That said, it will take time for him to develop that kind of trust in the new batch of wideouts. Regardless, pegging Rodgers to take home an MVP award is a rather safe bet year in and year out.
