Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Dannell Ellerbe seems to be rounding into form ahead of the all-important showdown with the England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Ellerbe, who did not suit up for the Eagles during the team’s decisive 38-7 win at home against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship Game because of a hamstring injury, returned to practice on Thursday, according to NBC Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro.

Dannell Ellerbe has only played in three games in the regular season, making just six total tackles and only two stuffs. The 32-year-old middle linebacker is also graded as “poor” by Pro Football Focus, which gives him an overall rating of 55.8. That said, Ellerbe’s value to the team comes in the form of an intangible quality, as the former Georgia Bulldog brings precious Super Bowl experience to the table in Philadelphia.
Article Continues BelowIn fact, Ellerbe is one of seven Eagles players who own a Super Bowl ring. Ellerbe was part of the Baltimore Ravens unit that took down the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
Other current Eagles who have won a Super Bowl before are safety Corey Graham and wide receiver Torrey Smith. Also included in that exclusive group are offensive tackle Will Beatty, running back LeGarrette Blount, safety Malcolm Jenkins, and defensive end Chris Long.
Ellerbe did not hear his name get called during the 2009 NFL Draft, but was later signed by the Ravens. In his first year in the league, Ellerbe recorded 41 combined tackles with a fumble recovery and an interception. After playing for four seasons with the Ravens, Ellerbe signed a five-year deal with the Miami Dolphins in 2013. He was traded to the New Orleans Saints in 2015 and stayed with the team until 2017. Ellerbe is currently playing on a one-year contract with the Eagles.
