Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson had been making the most out of his homecoming with a strong performance in training camp. Unfortunately, it appears he has suffered a setback.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Jackson broke his left ringer finger at practice but is not expected to miss any time.
Article Continues BelowMinor scare at Eagles practice: WR DeSean Jackson suffered a broken ring finger on his left hand in today’s workout, sources say. My understanding is he’s not expected to miss time and the team is not concerned.
This is certainly an encouraging update on Jackson. The timing of the injury is hardly ideal with only one preseason game left before the start of the 2019 NFL season. The prospect of him having to miss any time would have dealt a crushing blow to Philadelphia's receiving corps. Fortunately, that does not seem to be the case.
Broken fingers are often an occupational hazard for NFL wide receivers. One would be hard-pressed to find a pass-catcher that has not suffered multiple hand injuries throughout their playing careers. So long as it is not too significant, it is simply a matter of pain tolerance. Given Jackson's designation, they are hardly concerned about his status for the season opener against the Washington Redskins.
Jackson's return provides the Eagles with a much-needed explosive element to their offense. His ability to take the top off of opposing defenses will provide his teammates with much more room to work with underneath. Philadelphia will likely take every precaution they can to ensure he is good to go for Week 1.
