The Philadelphia Eagles have had a topsy-turvy season through the first five weeks of 2019. They have gotten off to a 3-2 start, but they haven't looked all that impressive while doing so.

Many had the Eagles pegged as a Super Bowl contender going into the year, but five games in, it looks like Philadelphia has a lot of work to do to reach that point, and that includes Carson Wentz.

Wentz is looking to make it through the season healthy for the first time since 2016. Two years ago, a torn ACL knocked him out. Last season, a back injury ended his year prematurely.

So, how has Wentz been looking thus far in 2019?

Well, much like the rest of the Eagles squad: up and down.

Wentz has thrown for 1,152 yards, 10 touchdowns and a couple of interceptions while completing 60.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 94.3.

Those aren't bad numbers by any stretch, but they aren't great, either, and it's looking like Wentz has actually taken a step backward from last season.

Remember: in Wentz's first two years in the NFL, accuracy was a big problem for him. He completed 62.4 percent of his throws during his rookie campaign, and in 2017, the year he was an MVP candidate, he completed only 60.2 percent of his throws.

The 26-year-old then showed vast improvement in that area in 11 games last season, registering a completion percentage of 69.6 percent, but so far this year, he has regressed back to his old ways.

Wentz opened up the season with a strong game, going 28-for-39, but in four games since, he has not completed 60 percent of his passes once.

While Wentz is taking good care of the football, he isn't really making big-time plays.

Now, to be fair, Wentz has been without DeSean Jackson since the wide receiver went down in Week 2, and Alshon Jeffery also missed a game after getting injured early in Week 2, as well.

Still, Jeffery has been back each of the last two weeks, and Wentz still has weapons such as Nelson Agholor and tight end Zach Ertz, the latter of whom caught 116 passes in 2018.

If Wentz is really an elite quarterback, he should be playing better. He has yet to really make his mark this season, and while it's entirely possible it's injuries taking their toll, there is also the chance that he has merely reverted back to old ways.

It's also a matter of expectations, as Wentz was unfairly anointed as a top-tier quarterback just two years into his NFL career.

But the fact of the matter is that he has yet to even throw for 4,000 yards in a single season, and he hasn't even proven that he can stay healthy.

The Eagles' offense has not played as well as most expected so far in 2019, as it ranks just 24th in the league in yardage. While there are certainly multiple factors contributing to that low ranking, Wentz is a big one.

I'm giving Wentz a B-minus for his performance through five weeks.

He hasn't been bad, but he certainly needs to play better if Philly wants to have any chance of making a serious run.
