Easley, 26, missed the entire 2017 season after tearing his ACL during training camp. That was the third time Easley has suffered a torn ACL in his entire football career and his second in his short four-year stint in the NFL.
Article Continues BelowA former first-round pick by the Patriots in 2014, Easley was released by New England after just two seasons as he missed 10 total games during that span. However, he played all 16 games for the first time in his NFL career in his first year with the Rams in 2016. He recorded 35 total tackles with 3.5 sacks as he provided depth on that Rams line behind superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Michael Brockers.
There’s obviously good reason to be concerned about Easley’s ability to stay on the field going forward due to all his knee issues. But when healthy, Easley has proven to be a capable contributor as a backup lineman. The Rams clearly felt that despite those health concerns, it was worth having him back given his high upside and his relatively cheap deal.
Even after re-signing Easley, the Rams may not be done adding to that defensive line this offseason. They are still set to meet with star free-agent Ndamukong Suh, who should take up the lion’s share of snaps at defensive tackle. Suh's potential addition could put the finishing touches to an incredibly eventful offseason for the Rams defensively after they added corners Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib but lost stalwarts Alec Ogletree, Robert Quinn, and Trumaine Johnson.
