The Washington Redskins made headlines with the signing of running back Adrian Peterson. Despite his Hall of Fame resume, the addition has come with its fair share of mixed reviews.
Needless to say, Peterson has heard the critics. According to Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post, he still has high expectations for himself in the 2018 NFL season.

So when people go back and say, ‘Oh, 2.4 yards per carry,’ there’s a lot that contributes to that as well. I just brush it off. And I continue to work because at the end of the day I control my output. So that’s why I continue to work hard. I knew an opportunity would present itself. And at the end of the day, God’s willing, stay healthy, the guys up front stay healthy as well, I know that I’ll be able to contribute in a big way in the run game.”
This is not the first time Peterson has had to prove the naysayers wrong. Although he has spent the entire offseason as a free agent, head coach Jay Gruden expressed how healthy the veteran looked during their workout. Gruden admitted it was one of the main reasons why they decided to sign him so quickly.
Peterson is coming off a disappointing 2017 campaign following the failed experiment with the New Orleans Saints at the beginning of the year. While he enjoyed some immediate success with the Arizona Cardinals following the trade, his season was cut short by a neck injury.
Regardless, Peterson has been adamant about his potential role as the workhorse in Washington. The team already boasts tremendous depth in the backfield as it is. That said, it will be interesting to see where he stands once the regular season rolls around.
