Could the San Francisco 49ers sign Tom Brady?
The 49ers are considered one of the top threats to pry Brady away from the New England Patriots in free agency this offseason, and now, Westgate Superbook has given San Francisco 12-1 odds to land the quarterback, via David Purdum of ESPN.com.
The Patriots remain the favorites to sign Brady.
The Niners certainly represent an interesting—if not ironic—potential destination for the 42-year-old, as they acquired Jimmy Garoppolo from New England back in 2017.
At that time, Bill Belichick was reluctant to part with Garoppolo because he felt that he could be Brady's successor, and some even suggested that the Pats move Brady instead and turn things over to Garoppolo.
However, the Patriots ultimately traded Garoppolo to the 49ers for a second-round draft pick.
Garoppolo got a few starts for San Francisco in 2017, and the following year, he was slated to be the club's full-time starter under center before tearing his ACL three games into the season.
The 28-year-old started every contest for the Niners this past year and ultimately led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, although San Francisco's success was due much more to its defense and its running game than Garoppolo.
Meanwhile, Brady has spent the first 20 years of his NFL career in New England has won six Super Bowl titles with the club, most recently doing so during the 2018-19 campaign.
The future Hall-of-Famer had a rough go this past season, as he missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2008, when he played in just one game after tearing his ACL in Week 1.
