The San Francisco 49ers are coming off an encouraging 30-27 win over the Detroit Lions that has put them in the position to push over the .500 mark in the early goings of the season.

It has completely smoothly as the 49ers have been dealing with the injury bug in the last couple of weeks that has seen star cornerback Richard Sherman hindered a bit over the last few days.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan has indicated that there is an expectation for Sherman to be on the field for Sunday's game on the road against the upstart Kansas City Chiefs. (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk)

“I expect him to be out there,” Shanahan said, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “He didn’t practice yesterday; he’s had some wear and tear on his heel … We’re taking it smart with him.”

Sherman has been limited on the practice field this week due to some issues with his heel that pushed the 49ers to put a bit of the brake on his usage. The team is relying on him to be the leading factor defensive setting the tone in the secondary as he's the lone proven player among the bunch. It has been a bit of struggle on that end ranking 23rd against the pass and 20th with a 99.0 opposing quarterback passer rating.

Despite his heel issues, the 49ers will need Sherman close to his best against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, who have been carving up opposing secondaries in their first couple of games this season.
