Richard Sherman has had a rough debut season with the San Francisco 49ers. With injuries hurting the Niners hard, they’re just 1-6 on the season and look set to get another high draft pick.
With less than a week left before the trade deadline, this would be an ideal time for the 49ers to sell off potential assets like Sherman, who could still help a contender in need of another reliable cornerback.
However, Sherman doesn’t expect to go anywhere. He says the 49ers haven’t approached his agent (which is himself) about a potential trade and expects to be part of the team’s future plans like they said he would be.

Haven’t reached out to my agent, obviously, and expressed anything,” Sherman said per Kirk Larrabee of 247Sports. “They’ve said since I came here that I was part of the future plans, at least for the next couple years, and that’s the way we see it. That’s the way I see it.”
Sherman signed a three-year deal worth up to $39.15 million with the 49ers in the offseason. There was some initial skepticism as to whether Sherman would be able to live up to that contract after suffering a serious Achilles injury last season. But halfway through the season, he’s proven that he’s still capable of playing at a high level.
The same can’t be said for the rest of the 49ers secondary, which has been a major weakness of the team this season. The hope is that Sherman’s presence can help mentor those younger players and help them improve in the coming seasons.
