When Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman inked a three-year, $39 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers over the offseason, the hope was that he would play a part in helping the franchise push forward this season.
However, it has been a step back with the 49ers having already dropped six out of their first seven games played that has put them at the bottom of the league in the standings. Despite these struggles on the field, Sherman has voiced no frustration with the situation but rather focus on a week-by-week approach for the rest of the campaign. (h/t Kirk Larrabee of 247 Sports)

Last week I didn’t get the chance to play unfortunately (due to a calf injury), but I think everybody’s sharing that same attitude. It’s not about what happened last week or the week before or what’s going to happen next week. It’s about what’s happening right now, and right now we’ve got the Arizona Cardinals and we’ve got to go out there and put our best foot forward and try to get a win, and they’re going to do the same. They’re 1-6, they’re struggling just as we are. So it’s whoever can battle out of that, then we’ll worry about next week after that.
It has been a difficult first campaign for Richard Sherman that has gone beyond just the team's struggles as he has been unable to remain healthy through the first several games. He has had problems staying on the field as he has dealt with a calf injury that has lingered on that has forced him to miss some playing time.
This has been a strange season for Sherman that he hoped to prove that he could return to elite form while helping the 49ers compete for the playoffs. However, things went completely after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL that prematurely ended his season.
There is still more than half of the season left to play, which could provide Sherman the chance to get on the field to continue to work his way back into form while helping the team salvage the year.
