San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman seems to have a clear idea of when he could officially retire from the NFL.
Sherman has put together an incredible career since entering the league back in 2011, as he helped lead the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Denver Broncos.
He is certainly one of the best cornerbacks in the league, and while the Niners have struggled to find success this season, it's been largely due to plenty of other factors.
However, Sherman is being realistic when it comes to how much longer he'll play.
Here's what he had to say recently about contemplating retirement and when he thinks that could happen, courtesy of Kirk Larrabee of 247Sports:
“I think 35 is probably my cut off,” Sherman said. “I don’t think I’d want to play – they’d have a hard time getting me out the bed at 35 to go play. I think I’ve got about four, five more in me. At some point everybody makes the transition to safety if you’re smart enough to play that game, and I’ll probably do that in a couple years or whenever the team needs.”
Transitioning to another position could help Sherman get a bit more out of his career, and that probably wouldn't be a welcome sight for opposing quarterbacks who have tried to avoid him over the years.
Sherman and company will return to the field on Sunday when they host the Denver Broncos.
The Niners will finish up the season with games against the Seahawks, Chicago Bears, and Los Angeles Rams.
