The San Francisco 49ers already boast one of the best defensive lines in the NFL, and now they're just adding some depth. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, San Francisco has signed defensive end Kerry Hyder to a one-year deal.

Of course, the 49ers have Joey Bosa and Dee Ford coming off of the edge on defense. The team also re-signed Arik Armstead at the beginning of NFL free agency. But at the same time, San Francisco chose to trade DeForest Buckner, leaving a void in the interior of the defense.
While Hyder isn't an interior defender, he can be a rotational pass rusher behind Bosa and Ford. Back in 2014, Hyder began his career with the New York Jets, being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech.
However, after one season with the Jets, Hyder joined the Detroit Lions. Over his three seasons in Detroit, Hyder combined for nine sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback hits. His best season came in 2016 when he recorded a career-best eight sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and 19 quarterback hits.
Hyder, a Texas native, chose to sign with the Dallas Cowboys before the 2019 season. In his lone season in Dallas, Hyder contributed one sack and one tackle for loss. Now, Hyder will be moving west to join the reigning NFC Champions.
Given that it's a one-year deal with Hyder, the 49ers are giving him a chance to prove himself next season. With that in mind, San Francisco is hoping that Hyder can revert back to his 2016 form in 2020.
