The San Francisco 49ers just made a blockbuster trade to move up to the No. 3 pick in the upcoming draft. While this would suggest Jimmy Garoppolo's days with the 49ers are coming to an end, the team is sending a different message.

While this certainly seems definitive, there could be other intentions at play as San Francisco approaches the draft and deals with the Garoppolo situation. The 49ers could be trying to drive up the price for a Garoppolo deal by claiming they're in on him as the quarterback in 2021.

There are a number of ways this could go for San Francisco. The 49ers are said to have no particular QB in mind with the No. 3 pick, but some would say it is unlikely they moved up without a specific player in mind. Trevor Lawrence is the clear No. 1 overall pick, but the draft has a lot of variability after that. If a quarterback is the pick at No. 3, it could be BYU's Zach Wilson, Justin Fields from Ohio State, or even Trey Lance from North Dakota State University.

There are other positional options as well. Penei Sewell would be a bolster to the offensive line, while Micah Parsons could be a target to add to their linebacking core. Whichever way the 49ers actually go, they will likely continue to be vague until the pick is officially in.
