There are only a few destinations outside of the New England Patriots that make a whole lot of sense for Tom Brady. And one of them is the San Francisco 49ers.

Think about it: the 49ers won 13 games and made it all the way to the Super Bowl this past season. But their main weakness is at the quarterback position. Brady's former teammate, Jimmy Garoppolo, has looked largely unimpressive as the starting QB.

So could Brady potentially take his talents to the Bay Area in free agency this month?

Michael Lombardi of The Athletic seems to think it's a possibility. He gives San Francisco a 20 percent chance of acquiring the future Hall-of-Famer:

“I do know this. I think he has a strong interest — and he (Brady) said it the other day to Charlie Weis, and I respect what he said, ‘Nobody knows nothing’ and he’s right — but, I have a strong hunch, call it an instinct, call it something through the grapevine that San Francisco is in play,” Lombardi said on The GM Shuffle. … “I say it is 20/80 that it happens, 20 percent it happens, 80 percent it doesn’t. But, San Francisco is in play.”

Of all of the clubs not named the Patriots that could possibly land Brady, the Niners probably do make the most sense. They are a win-now ballclub, and with Brady turning 43 years old this summer, it would be foolish to think that he won't strongly consider the state of each of the teams interested in him.

Brady is coming off of a 2019-20 campaign in which he threw for 4,057 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2008 when he was knocked out for the season in Week 1 due to a torn ACL.
