Why The Bruins Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Boston Bruins put a 7-0 beating on the Los Angeles Kings last night as they continue to play strong hockey coming into Anaheim tonight. While still in a wild card spot, the Bruins have been flying under the radar, which might catch teams by surprise come the postseason. Over the last month, the Bruins have allowed just 1.99 goals against per game, giving zero indication that anything should change moving forward. Linus Ullmark will look to get the start in this back-to-back situation as Jeremy Swayman forced a shutout between the pipes last night. Ullmark is 17-8-1 on the year with a .909 save percentage and allowing 2.76 goals per game. He'll look to keep the Bruins' six-game winning streak alive tonight against a free-falling Ducks team.

Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Anaheim Ducks started the season off so strong but have slowly continued to fall down the standings recently as they posted a 2-5-0 mark for the month of February. They now currently sit just two points behind a wild card spot but come into this game on a two-game losing streak. The young talent that the Ducks possess in Troy Terry and Trevor Zegras doesn't go unnoticed but has slowly started to trend downward since the All-Star break. Nevertheless, the Ducks' top six forwards will face a tough matchup against a strong Bruins defense.

It's unclear if star goaltender John Gibson will be back in the net tonight after dealing with an illness, but he and backup Anthony Stolarz have shockingly put up relatively similar numbers. Stolarz is 8-6-1 while sporting a .917 save percentage and allowing 2.75 goals against on the season. If Gibson doesn't start tonight, expect to see Stolarz put up his best effort against a tough Bruins team tonight.

Final Bruins-Ducks Prediction & Pick

The Ducks have been in a rough form lately and although this is a tough spot for the Bruins on the back end of a back-to-back game, we can't look past the difference in talent between these two teams. Even with the lesser of the two Bruins' goaltending options in Ullmark defending their net tonight, I think they'll still be able to give out offensive output. With that said, the Bruins tend to keep games close (despite the 7-0 win last night) so I don't feel comfortable taking their -1.5 puck line. Their straight-up Moneyline isn't the best of odds either, so I'm going to pick the Bruins for a 3-Way Moneyline, meaning that they must win in regulation. Those odds on FanDuel are -110 and are much more appealing than the -178 that they're currently listed at.
