The Los Angeles Kings will head on down the street to Anaheim to take on the Ducks in tonight's California hockey matchup. The Kings are dangerously close to losing a playoff spot to Vegas, just three points behind, if they can't get a win here tonight. The Ducks on the other hand are well out of the playoffs at this point. Both of these teams are very familiar with each other and should be a good battle. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Kings-Ducks prediction and pick.

Why The Kings Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Los Angeles Kings are desperate for points at this stage in the season as they are just three points ahead of Vegas for the 3rd seed in the Pacific Division. Both of the wild-card teams even have more points than the Kings, so if they give up that 3rd seed, they're out of the playoffs completely. With that said, every game from here on out is crucial for the Kings – a must-win, if you will. Goaltender Jonathan Quick will look to get the starting job for the Kings tonight as he has been performing well lately, but boasting a .909 save percentage on the year while allowing 2.67 goals against per game. The Kings' offense has struggled lately, scoring just 2.7 goals per game over their last 10 contests, but they can still make it happen against a weak Ducks team.

Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Anaheim Ducks have been picked on all season for starting out so strong and then just having a complete meltdown, eventually pushing them well outside of the playoffs. However, the Ducks are a very young team and have a lot of potential for their future (maybe starting with a new logo and jersey concept in my opinion). The Ducks haven't done great on offense this season, scoring 2.57 goals per game, and have really let their defense go as well. Speaking of, Anthony Stolarz is the projected starting goaltender for this game and is representing a .917 save percentage while allowing 2.63 goals against per game. He won't replace John Gibson, but he is a very solid backup. They'll do their best tonight to upset the Kings and make them work harder for their wins.

Final Kings-Ducks Prediction & Pick

This game just feels too obvious to me, the Kings are desperate for points as they are trying to steer clear of the Golden Knights interrupting their playoff hopes. The Ducks are playing just to spoil the victors at this point, but have a lot of potential in their future. I don't love the odds, but I'm going to take the Kings Moneyline at -170. The 3Way Moneyline is also an option if you're feeling confident that they can win in regulation, but this Ducks team is lowkey pretty scrappy, so I'm going to play it safe here.

Final Kings-Ducks Prediction and Pick: Kings Moneyline -170
