If the Los Angeles Kings thought that they have softened up the Edmonton Oilers following a 4-3 win in Game 1, then they were proved absolutely wrong. In Game 2 Wednesday night, Evander Kane and the Oilers took the Kings to the woodshed for a 6-0 pummeling that certainly shifted momentum back to Edmonton.
So good was the Oilers’ performance that they were able to pull off a feat not seen in franchise history for 16 years.

After a scoreless first period, the Oilers revved up their offensive engine and carved up the Kings. Leon Draisaitl lit up the lamp first with a power play goal less than two minutes in the second period. Then Darnell Nurse scored shorthanded before Ryan McLeod capped the period with a goal to give Edmonton a 3-0 lead before intermission.
The Oilers did not let up after that, scoring three more goals in the third period, with Evander Kane netting twice in that frame. It was a strong message sent to Los Angeles by the Oilers before the series goes to Hollywood for Games 3 and 4.
