The Denver Nuggets declared October 29th Dikembe Mutombo day and chose that date to retire his jersey.
The Hall of Famer was drafted by the Nuggets in 1991, and spent five seasons in Denver. During that time Mutombo averaged 12.9 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks.
He also won a Defensive Player of the Year award, and helped lead the charge of the historical first round upset over the No. 1 seeded Seattle Supersonics in 1994.
The video footage of Mutombo holding the basketball above his head while he lays on the floor in complete euphoria is an NBA classic.
The Nuggets chose to wear the throwback rainbow skyline uniforms to honor the era Mutombo played in.
If that wasn’t enough, all the fans in attendance get free finger wag foam fingers, in tribute to Mutombo’s finger wag he famously coined after blocking shots during his career.
