Aaron Gordon was recently traded to the Denver Nuggets by the Orlando Magic. Like almost every player who gets traded, he needed to decide on a new jersey number.

Gordon, who wore the number 00 in the Magic, selected the number 50 as his new number. Interestingly, it’s not just because he wanted a fresh start. According to Altitude TV’s Katy Winge, he chose 50 because of his dunk contest scores and the fact that he didn’t win. This number also references his documentary called “Mr.50.”

It makes sense why Gordon still has this moment etched in his brain, as he could be considered as the best dunker without a crown in the NBA. Aaron Gordon has more 50-point score dunks (eight) than any player in league history, including Michael Jordan and Zach Lavine. He once said that winning the dunk contest trophy has been a dream of his since his childhood days, so it’s hard to blame the new Nuggets forward for wanting to win it so bad.

At least with the Nuggets, Aaron Gordon can focus on winning an NBA championship.

With the recent moves the Nuggets made in the deadline, it certainly puts the team in great form. Denver is currently fifth in the Western Conference standings with a record of 27-18—just one game behind the Los Angeles Lakers, who are expected to fall down the standings sans their superstars. Alongside MVP candidate Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, Gordon will get a shot to compete for a trophy—but not for the Slam Dunk competition.
