Former Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl believes the team should look to acquire New Orleans Pelicans combo guard Jrue Holiday this offseason, even if it means the Nuggets have to part ways with youngster Michael Porter Jr.

The Nuggets are coming off a special postseason run at Walt Disney World. They made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals, where the Los Angeles Lakers bounced them in five games.

However, the Nuggets made NBA history in Orlando, Florida. They became the first team ever to erase two 3-1 series deficits in the playoffs. Denver defeated the Utah Jazz in the first round after trailing 3-1 and took out the Los Angeles Clippers in the second round.

The Nuggets have two stars in point guard Jamal Murray and center Nikola Jokic. If Denver is somehow able to land Jrue Holiday–one of the best two-way players in the NBA–the team would become legitimate title contenders in the NBA, something George Karl is rooting to see despite no longer being in Denver.

With the Pelicans in 2019-20, Holiday averaged 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Holiday is set to make $25,396,111 in 2020-21. It is unclear if the Pelicans will make Holiday available in trade talks this offseason, but that shouldn't stop the Nuggets' front office from picking up the phone and calling New Orleans to see what it will take to get the All-NBA defender.

Michael Porter Jr. has star potential in the NBA, but his defense is pretty suspect, so the Nuggets shouldn't hesitate to part ways with MPJ if they can acquire a star this offseason.
