If you haven't seen Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. post on social media recently, there's a good reason for that.

Porter Jr., rehabbing from back surgery, redshirted in what would have been his rookie year during the 2018-19 NBA season. He's focused on recovering and returning to form and keeping off social media is one method to prevent negativity.

Via Mike Singer in the Denver Post:

“That’s why I get off of social media so much,” said Porter. “I hate people like building this hype around me and then I can’t play or something and then everybody’s hating. It’s kind of hard, people act like you’re not human. Like, I see that stuff. I gotta take a break from looking at all that stuff.”

Porter also added that “social media is … a good thing to develop your brand,” and that when he gets “on the court and play, I'll probably get it back, start posting stuff.”

For now, however, the former lottery pick doesn't like “looking at all the negativity” during his rehabilitation process.

Porter Jr., a 21-year-old forward at 6'10”, was selected by the Nuggets with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Concerns about his durability following a shortened college tenure at the University of Missouri prevented teams from picking the talented former high-school product any higher.

Denver is hoping Porter is back soon to join a team expected to compete in the Western Conference again; last season they finished only second to the Golden State Warriors.
