Where will star defensive back Caleb Downs transfer? Downs, who previously played at Alabama before deciding to enter the college football transfer portal, is already drawing plenty of interest. Although Georgia has been mentioned as a potential landing destination, Ohio State football is also set to visit with Downs, according to Pete Nakos of On3.

“Ohio State is traveling down to Georgia on Thursday to make an in-home visit with Alabama transfer defensive back Caleb Downs, sources tell @On3sports. The No. 1 player in the transfer portal. Bulldogs are the other factor in his recruitment,” Nakos wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

As Nakos mentioned, Downs is the No. 1 player in the transfer portal. His decision will drastically impact whichever program he ends up with.

Downs is one of the best players in college football. Ohio State football would land a major upgrade to their defense in Downs.

While with Alabama this past season, he finished the year with 107 total tackles, 70 of which were solo. Downs added three passes defended, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. He also returned punts at times for the Crimson Tide, ultimately scoring one touchdown.

Downs is surely receiving more interest but it appears that the Buckeyes and Bulldogs are his likeliest destinations at the moment. Both programs are well-respected and have found success over the years. However, Georgia and Ohio State football fell short of their lofty expectations in 2023.

Perhaps adding Caleb Downs would help them return to the College Football Playoff and possibly even the national championship.
