The Edmonton Oilers are in survival mode. They have just won big in Game 4 against the Florida Panthers and are trying to ride that momentum to force Game 6. Connor McDavid's leadership has been a big help for this squad as everyone is starting to pop off against the Matthew Tkachuck-led squad. So, Connor Brown started the scoring party and even etched his name in the annals of Stanley Cup Final history.

Connor Brown just scored a shorthanded goal to kick off the scoring in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. This made the Oilers blaze up and pick up the pace such that they inch closer to forcing a sixth clash in this series. The Oilers have now scored back-to-back shorthanded goals to start their games against the Panthers. This is the first time that it was done in Stanley Cup Final history, per Sportsnet Stats.

Everyone celebrated Connor Brown's goal because it felt like the start of yet another Oilers scoring outburst. What made it more special was the fact that Brown struggled all season long after his extension. He managed to fix his woes just in time for this Stanley Cup Final series against the Panthers.

Connor Brown you absolute beast. What a move. This guy is a machine right now. Just getting this team going for the second straight game. Unreal story after this regular season's struggles.

I don't want to hear one more whine, gripe, or b**** about Connor Brown's bonus. Agreed?

Connor Brown is making me giggle we all knew you were pretending you couldn't score

Some were even caught in awe of how this Oilers player's goal was narrated in the middle of the broadcast.

Ray Ferraro's replay analysis of Connor Brown's SHG complete with storytelling, context, and statistics, with passion, is why he's the best NHL analyst there is. Absolute art.

Others marveled at the fact that the Oilers completely caught the Panthers sleeping en route to the shorty.

You’d think Connor Brown was a yoga instructor the way he had Sergei Bobrovsky stretching that deep.

Brown has surely turned it up for the Oilers since the race for the Stanley Cup started. He was not that serviceable next to Connor McDavid in the past two seasons. To put it into perspective, he played 96 games from the end of March back in 2022 to May 23 of this year. He was only able to net four goals in that span of nearly 800 days.

Since the Oilers started feeling that they had a shot at winning the Stanley Cup Final, he played 10 games and scored 2 goals for his squad. Being in survival mode surely shifts a gear in the minds of players. Brown is a big example of that.

As of writing, the Oilers are up four to two in Game 5 against the Panthers. They have ridden that momentum from Brown's goal fairly well. Hopefully, this lead to balloons even more such that Connor McDavid and the rest of the squad stay in contention to win the Stanley Cup Final.
