The Green Bay Packers got the 2018 NFL season off with a bang that was led by a 20-point second half comeback from star quarterback Aaron Rodgers that came down to the wire late in the fourth quarter.

It was a classic performance from Rodgers, who made a return after halftime following what looked to be a potentially severe leg knee injury after he was sacked early in the second quarterback. According to Peter King of Football Morning in America, Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb voiced that it was a special moment for the franchise.

“I had a little moment with Aaron,” Cobb said. “Told him I love him. He’s such a warrior. It was amazing having him out there, after we thought he was done. He figured exactly how to play too: short, quick throws, rhythm and timing. That just reinforced what I already knew about him. I’ve seen it for years. But this was special.”

Things had looked bleak for a short period of time before halftime as there was much concern that Rodgers had suffered what could be a serious injury. On top of that, backup DeShone Kizer was struggling to perform as Pro Bowl defensive end Khalil Mack was making a significant impact on the game with a strip sack and fumble recovery, and an interception that he ran back for a touchdown to put his team up 17-0.

However, the return of Rodgers changed the entire course of the game as his play fueled the momentum despite playing on essentially one leg. The 34-year-old tossed three touchdowns in the final two quarters that began with an impressive 39-yard touchdown throw down the sideline to wide receiver Geronimo Allison. It was followed up by a 12-yard touchdown reception to Pro Bowl wideout Davante Adams. This was all capitalized by a 75-yard touchdown strike to Cobb that put the Packers up for good. Cobb was the leading target finishing with nine catches for 142 receiving yards and a touchdown.

It was one of the most memorable performances for Rodgers given the circumstances that gave much reason as to why Green Bay was quite willing to give him a four-year, $134 million. Although he is dealing with an injury, he has already clarified that he will be on the field for Week 2 action against the Minnesota Vikings.
