The San Diego Padres have struck gold and acquired Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Adam Frazier to kick off the MLB trade deadline, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
The San Diego Padres are acquiring second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources tell ESPN.
Frazier, 29, leads baseball in hits this year and is not a free agent until after the 2022 season. One of the best bats on the trade market.

The Padres have been rumored for Kris Bryant and Joey Gallo, so acquiring Fraizer is definitely a surprise. However, you can never count out Padres general manager AJ Preller who will do whatever it takes to get a star and lead this team to a World Series.
According to Kevin Acee, the Padres didn't send any players on their major league roster. And here's the return for the Pirates, who sent Frazier away and have had familiarity with the Padres in recent years as well.
Tucupita Marcano and Jake Suwinski among players headed from Padres to Pirates for Adam Frazier if deal is completed, sources tell me and @Dennistlin. In medical review stage.

Frazier is having a stellar season for the Pirates, but with Pittsburgh trending down, he was expendable and has found a new home in San Diego. Where will he play is the real question.
The outfield is already set, and the middle of the infield has a pair of All-Stars in Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jake Cronenworth, so surely Preller has something else up his sleeve.
Get ready, this is only the beginning of what should shape up to be a wacky, wild MLB trade deadline. But the Padres strike first.
