Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey established himself as an MVP favorite during the first half of the 2019 NFL season. However, he finally heard all the talk actually come to life during the 30-20 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 9.

McCaffrey enjoyed yet another spectacular outing that even sparked MVP chants from the crowd full of Panthers fans at Bank of America Stadium. He admits it was special to hear the cheers from fans, via Steve Reed of the Associated Press

“That was pretty cool,” McCaffrey said. “We have a lot of ball left. But I’m very appreciative of that.”

The chants came during McCaffrey's 58-yard dash to the end zone to secure the hat trick and the win. As appreciative as McCaffrey is, there is no question that he is more than deserving of the cheers thanks to his efforts thus far. Regardless, his comments indicate that he still has plenty of work to do.

McCaffrey has been the best running back in the league this thanks to his versatile skill set as both an electrifying runner and bonafide pass-catcher. He currently leads the NFL with 1,244 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns this season. More importantly, he has helped his team navigate to a 5-3 start without their franchise quarterback.

McCaffrey will need to continue to put up big numbers if he hopes to make a case against players like Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Regardless, it is safe to say that he has a solid chance if he can continue to stay healthy.
