The New England Patriots just won yet another Super Bowl, but they've already faced significant adversity this offseason. They lost several key contributors from last year's team, like left tackle Trent Brown and pass-rusher Trey Flowers. They also lost defensive coordinator Brian Flores to the Dolphins, who took several Patriots assistants with him.

Then they lost the man the hired to replace Flores, Greg Schiano, as Schiano abruptly resigned recently. Bill Belichick recently spoke to the media, and was not shockingly pretty tight-lipped about the situation. In classic Belichick fashion, he downplayed the drama.

“We're not talking about an unprecedented event here,” he said about Schiano leaving, via Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports.

In even more classic Belichick fashion, he delivered a vintage answer when asked a follow-up about his plan to replace Schiano.

“Relative to draft? Let's stick with the draft … appreciate the question,” Belichick replied.

Whatever Belichick's plan is, he isn't letting it slip. There were reports immediately after Schiano's resignation that Belichick might take over the role of defensive coordinator himself. Those haven't been confirmed though, and Belichick could always promote someone from within.

Belichick was hesitant even to give Flores the official title of defensive coordinator, even though Flores called the defensive plays and operated as the de-factor coordinator. Even if it was a big deal, Belichick almost certainly wouldn't admit it, so it's hard to tell how much he's actually bothered by Schiano's departure.

When Schiano first stepped down last month, Belichick issued a statement that indicated there was no falling out between the two sides.

“I respect Coach Schiano greatly and appreciate his contributions to our staff and team,” Belichick said at the time. “He is a friend who we support completely.”
