Patriots coach Bill Belichick reveals his top two players in NFL history

Tom Brady, Lawrence Taylor, Bill Belichick, Patriots, Giants

The discussions regarding the greatest NFL players of all time are complicated. Everyone seems to have differing opinions on who’s the best player to ever play, and more often than not these conversations devolve into full-blown arguments. For New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, though, there’s no question as to who’s the greatest.

In an interview on The Greg Hill Show, Bill Belichick revealed who he thinks is the greatest player on offense and defense. To nobody’s surprise, he picked former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the GOAT offensive player. “On defense with (Lawrence) Taylor — the greatest offensive player with Tom, and the greatest defensive player with Taylor. It’s been a tremendous opportunity for me as a coach…very thankful, for over 30 years, coaching those 2 guys.”

Despite countless rumors surrounding Belichick and Brady’s relationship after the latter left the Patriots, it’s clear that the two have a ton of respect for each other. It’s hard not to argue with Belichick’s choice of Tom Brady being the GOAT offensive player: after all, he watched him win six rings for New England in his time there. He knows more than anyone just how great the quarterback was.

Bill Belichick already praised Tom Brady earlier in the interview. When asked about the Buccaneers QB’s newest documentary, the Patriots coach had nothing but high praise for the former, saying:

“I definitely will (watch it) and as I have said many times, nobody deserves more credit for our success here with the Patriots than Tom does,” Belichick said. “He’s a great player, great person, great leader. Just a tremendous opportunity for me to coach.

As for Taylor, Belichick also had first-hand experience watching the Giants star blossom. Prior to his stint with the Patriots, Belichick served as the Giants’ linebackers coach and eventually the defensive coordinator. There, he witnessed Lawrence Taylor become a monster on defense, racking up Defensive Player of the Year awards and trophies.
