New England Patriots wide receiver Brandin Cooks had arguably his best game of the season in the AFC Championship Game. He had six catches and 100 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars’ top-ranked pass defense, and also drew a pair of key pass interference penalties on cornerback A.J. Bouye that resulted in 68 yards.

That performance was a promising sign that Cooks’ chemistry with quarterback Tom Brady is improving. As the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe reports, Cooks believes that is indeed the case and that it could still get better in time for the Super Bowl.

“I think it’s growing day-by-day, every single practice, every single game,” Cooks said. “The great thing about it is, we have another chance to grow that trust in a couple of weeks.”

Cooks' relationship with Brady is just part of his overall preparation for the Super Bowl, which he's treating like it's his last.

“You’ve got to be able to treat it like you’re never going to get this opportunity again,” Cooks said. “We’re fortunate as a team, so we’ve got to look at it from that standpoint. We never know if we can get back here, so give it all you’ve got.”

Cooks came into the season with a lot of hype following the Patriots’ big trade with the New Orleans Saints to make him Brady’s No. 1 receiver. Despite having some inconsistent performances while getting acclimated to an all-new offensive system, Cooks still had a strong debut season overall in New England as he finished with 65 catches for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns.

While Rob Gronkowski is likely to be ready for the Super Bowl and Danny Amendola showing what a big-game player he can be, Cooks will nevertheless continue to play an important role in the Patriots offense against the Eagles. As he showed against the Jaguars, Cooks has the ability to provide Brady with that deep-play threat that can help turn the game in New England’s favor.
