Cam Newton didn't have success in his first — and possibly only — season with the New England Patriots. Despite Newton's struggles with the Patriots in 2020, Devin McCourty recently shared on his “Double Coverage” podcast with his brother Jason that he wouldn't mind seeing Newton back in New England in 2021.

“I wouldn't mind a lot of these guys quarterbacking my team. I'll start off by saying I wouldn't mind seeing my guy Cam Newton come back,” Devin said, as transcribed by WEEI's Ryan Hannable. “I thought he had a tough [situation] coming in — no offseason, no anything. [He] played in a Super Bowl and won a MVP.”

Newton would finish the 2020 campaign with only 2,657 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He would also rush for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns, showing that he can still be a threat with his legs.

Above all, the Patriots finished with a 7-9 record with Newton operating the offense, causing them to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008. But to be fair, as Devin alluded to, Newton was thrust into a new offense with no offseason, and he had to miss valuable practice time — plus a game — due to COVID-19.

When the regular season concluded, all signs pointed toward Newton and the Patriots going their separate ways this offseason. And there's still a likely chance that Newton won't be back with New England next season. But if the Patriots were to bring back Newton, Devin seems like he'd be content with giving him another chance to prove himself.
