Cam Newton's odds to win NFL MVP in the 2020 season have increased dramatically after the former Carolina Panthers star signed with the New England Patriots.

Newton is set to try to step in to replace Tom Brady with the Patriots, which is going to be much easier said than done given what the latter accomplished before signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency.

However, a healthy Newton has also accomplished a lot in the NFL, and Bill Belichick and company are hoping that he can regain his confidence with the Patriots.

The oddsmakers also seem to be betting on Newton becoming a major player in the league once again, as he has moved into the top 10 in odds for the NFL MVP race, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

The updated odds at MGM have Cam Newton at +2500, which puts him in the same spot as Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.

Of course, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes continues to lead the way with the best odds, with both Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson right behind him.

But it's interesting to see Newton getting such a big push up the board. If healthy, there's no doubt that he can be an impact player for the Patriots, and could even help them win the AFC East for seemingly the millionth time in a row.

Should he accomplish that, it's understandable why he could be among the favorites for the NFL MVP award, even if Mahomes and Jackson are clearly the frontrunners heading into the season.

The most likely scenario for Newton is winning the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award, especially if he's able to have a ton of success with the Patriots after battling injuries in recent seasons.
