The New England Patriots won the Super Bowl last season and reloaded this offseason to make another run in 2019. The team added Demaryius Thomas but the veteran wideout may not take the field for a while.

In an article by Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Howe says that Demaryius Thomas' return date is a total mystery. Thomas is recovering from a torn achilles he suffered in 2018 with the Houston Texans.

While the reigning Super Bowl champs take the practice field for training camp, Thomas is on the preseason PUP list. Thomas could remain on the PUP list to begin the regular season as New England eases him back.

This season, the Patriots are desperate to find weapons to surround Tom Brady. Most notably, Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement earlier this offseason, leaving a void in the offense. Ben Watson and Matt LaCosse are expected to assume the tight end role in some combination.

Along with Thomas, the Patriots drafted N'Keal Harry and brought in Dontrelle Inman to help improve their receiver corps. Of course, Julian Edelman will be an important piece to the passing offense in 2019.

As for Thomas, he may not be the same receiver he once was with the Denver Broncos where he was catching over 100 passes and 1,000 yards in multiple seasons. Yet, it wouldn't come as a surprise if New England was able to rejuvenate his career to an extent.

No matter whom the Patriots have on their team, they'll be a contender every season. The Patriots go by the motto “next man up,” and they'll need to do that while Demaryius Thomas recovers from his injury.
