New England Patriots running back James White is having a career year this season. The fifth-year pro, who’s known more as a receiving back, has already set a new career-high with 204 rushing yards and is well on course toward setting some others with 55 catches for 459 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns through just eight games.

White is just one of two running backs along with Saquon Barkley currently ranked inside the top 10 in receptions this season. That puts him above three of the top wide receivers in the league in Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, and Antonio Brown.

Of course, White’s receptions are not nearly as challenging as those of Jones, Hopkins, and Brown, as he often receives relatively short passes from Tom Brady.

But still, those short passes are an important staple of the Patriots offense. Moreover, it’s impressive how White has transformed into one of Brady’s most reliable receiving weapons on a team that also features the likes of Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski, who are two of the very best players in the game.

Although, it’s actually a bit of a surprise that it’s happened so long after White’s amazing performance in their epic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl when he had 14 catches for 110 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

But it seems White has finally had the opportunity to become an integral part of the Patriots offense this season, and he’s taken it with both hands.
