The New England Patriots are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won their sixth Super Bowl championship, so, naturally, they are considered Super Bowl contenders heading into 2019.

But even though the Patriots look like frontrunners to win it all again, their offense is actually a work in progress.

As a matter of fact, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is not even sure what the team's offense will look like.

“We want to take care of the ball, play penalty-free, and make as few mistakes as we can make,” McDaniels said, according to Kevin Duffy of The Boston Herald. “That’s a generic answer, but that’s the reality of the situation at this point in time. You’re a few weeks away from the opener, and there’s still a lot of unknowns, still a lot of bridges you’ve got to cross, and a lot of reps you’ve got to take to get better and improve on. But to say exactly what we’re going to be, what [personnel] groupings we’re going to lean on, who’s going to play this many snaps, the roles everybody’s ironed out, I think it would probably be unfair for me to say that.”

While that may sound worrisome, let's keep in mind that Bill Belichick and Tom Brady probably know what they're doing.

NFL offenses change every year, as teams have to develop new schemes and wrinkles to avoid getting stale. Defenses have endless film on opposing offenses, so if you come into every season running the same thing, you are going to be in for a rough time.

New England is just fortunate enough to have the best head coach and the best quarterback of all-time, which should give the Pats more than enough to adjust to basically anything as the season progresses.
