Julian Edelman's new contract with the Patriots will likely make him a member of the New England organization for the rest of his career. According to the receiver, he wouldn't have it any other way.

“Honestly, I didn’t want to go anywhere, and I’m not going anywhere,” Edelman said, via Zack Cox of NESN. “So Boston, I’ll be back for a couple more.”

Edelman signed the contract on his 33rd birthday, two days after the Patriots began OTAs.

Edelman’s extension reportedly is a two-year deal worth up to $18 million, including an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million in guaranteed money.  Albert Breer of The MMQB shared the full details Thursday morning:

In the 15 games, including the postseason, after his four-game suspension last season, Edelman caught 100 passes for 1,238 yards and six touchdowns. He now ranks second all-time in career postseason receptions and receiving yards behind Jerry Rice.

Edelman caught 74 passes for 850 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games regular-season games last season before playing at a torrid pace during the Patriots' Super Bowl run. He tallied nine catches for 151 yards in the divisional round, seven for 96 in the AFC Championship Game and 10 for 141 in Super Bowl LIII to earn game MVP honors.

“I’ve been blessed and fortunate to attain and reach a lot of my dreams, but I still have a lot of other things that I want to go for. I’ve got a big chip on my shoulder still,” Edelman said.

Edelman has been the consummate pro for New England and now will have a talented young group around him to mentor this season, including first-round pick N'Keal Harry.
