Week 1's showdown between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots saw Mac Jones make the first regular-season start of his pro career. And while that did not end up the way he wanted to, the poise and control he showed under duress in the pocket must have some Patriots fans having flashbacks of Tom Brady.

According to Zack Cox of NESN, Jones managed to move the chains on multiple occasions despite getting beat by Miami's pass rush in a 17-16 loss.

The Dolphins were credited with nine QB hits today. Mac Jones completed passes on six of those plays, with four resulting in a first down or touchdown. Also had a 33-yard completion to Bourne while being hit wiped out by a holding penalty.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback, who edged Cam Newton for the starting gig in Foxboro, finished the Dolphins game with 281 passing yards and a touchdown without getting picked on 29-of-39 completions. Jones was only sacked once for a loss of 13 yards, but there's certainly much room for improvement for the Patriots' offensive line in terms of pass protection.

Things could get better for Jones in Week 2 when he faces off with fellow rookie Zach Wilson of the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

There's a long way to go before Jones gets viewed as an absolute lock as the Patriots' QB1 just like Brady before, but it's fair to say that he's doing a fine job, so far.
