The New England Patriots will head into Monday night's matchup against the New York Jets without running back Rex Burkhead. The seventh-year running back has been out since leaving Week 4's match against with a foot injury.

Before going down, Burkhead was productive in his time on the field, being involved in both the Patriots passing game as well as their rushing attack.

While the Jets have looked disappointing so far this season, they are coming off a big win against the Dallas Cowboys and Sam Darnold looked impressive in leading his team. However, the Patriots are still the Patriots and host the best defense in the league that is capable of carrying an offense even without Burkhead.

New England's three-headed rushing attack that features Burkhead alongside James White and Sony Michel has been a bit disappointing so far this season, sitting in the bottom half of the league in rushing yards per game. Knowing how often the Patriots like to switch their running backs in and out, Burkhead's absence has been noticeable but Michel has been able to carry the load.

Burkhead's foot injury has already kept him out of two games so far as the Pats will hope his injury is not severe enough keep him out another week, hoping to get back to full strength in the next few games. New England will face their toughest stretch yet, with the Browns, Ravens, and Eagles all set to face the Super Bowl champs in the coming weeks.
