New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made history Thursday with his 500th career touchdown pass. And he did it with his first career connection with new receiver Josh Gordon. It was a terrific throw and catch on a broken play as Brady launched it to the end zone for Gordon to reel in amid two defenders.

Brady said the fact that he even made that type of throw to a new receiver in double coverage shows the confidence he already has in Gordon.

“That was a great play Josh made, you know, jumping over the top of two defenders,” Brady said per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “That tells you the kind of confidence I have in a really short period of time. You know, he’s earned it and happy to see him make that play.”

Brady has already pointed out that he and Gordon have quickly established a nice rapport, which has been helped by the fact that they sit next to one another in the locker room. He and Bill Belichick have also been very complimentary of how hard Gordon has worked to learn the offensive system since arriving at the team.

Despite just four catches in his first two games, it seems that Gordon’s hard work has paid off in terms of Brady quickly building trust in him. That is obviously a promising sign for their relationship, which should only improve moving forward as Gordon continues to get comfortable in his new surroundings in New England.
