We are getting closer and closer to seeing just exactly what Tom Brady will do in free agency. Adam Schefter of ESPN is becoming more and more convinced that Brady will be leaving the New England Patriots.

While Schefter is not ruling out the possibility of Brady ultimately returning to the franchise with which he has spent the first 20 years of his NFL career, Schefter told Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio on Thursday that he surmises the quarterback is leaning toward signing elsewhere:

“Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are no closer to a contract agreement today than they were at any point during the season or any time recently,” said Schefter. “So if the greatest quarterback and arguably the greatest player in NFL history is not any closer to a contract agreement with the team he’s played for for 20 years, I think we can all sense what way this is tracking.”

Brady spoke with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick recently. But that conversation didn't really seem to go anywhere.

“At what point is it going to register with people who believe he’s going back there that there’s a real chance he’s not going back there?” added Schefter. “What more do we need to see — other than him actually agreeing to a deal with another team, which certainly seems like it’s on track to happen now.”

Clearly, Schefter thinks the possibility of Brady departing New England is very real. And he is far from the first media member to say that he feels Brady's days with the Pats may be coming to an end.

The Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers have emerged as potential destinations for the 42-year-old, and the Las Vegas Raiders represent a possibility, as well.

Brady has won six Super Bowls with the Patriots, so him leaving may seem unfathomable. But we might find out on March 18 that the future Hall-of-Famer may be wearing a different uniform in 2020.
