Through the first few weeks of the offseason, the New England Patriots have been one of the more quiet teams in the league. There hasn't been much movement on the market from the front office to retool the roster for a push to improve the roster ahead of the 2018 season.

In light of that, the Patriots had decided on Tuesday to pass on paying veteran wide receiver Danny Amendola more money in free agency leading him to agree to a deal with the Miami Dolphins. However, there could be much more to New England choosing to not meet Amendola's financial request as it may be done in order to pursue Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

There has been talk over the last few days that the Dolphins are leaning toward parting ways with Suh at some point this week to get out from under final three years of his six-year, $114.3 million deal with the team. This would put him on the open market for the second time in his career where he would receive plenty of attention around the league as at least eight teams are believed to have interest in him.

The possible emergence of the Patriots in this conversation could be quite interesting given that the team doesn't currently possess much financial flexibility. The team currently has $22.4 million in salary cap space, which would require them to commit a large chunk of that to Suh in any potential contract offer to possibly have any realistic chance of landing him.

The 31-year-old is still one of the league's top defensive tackles earning five Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro nods, and two Second-Team All-Pro selections. However, he did experience a dip in production this past season recording 47 total tackles and 4.5 sacks.

This shouldn't have too much of an impact on the sizeable market that Suh will have that could see the Patriots sneak in as a landing spot over the next few days.
