The New England Patriots may end up losing Tom Brady this NFL offseason, creating a huge opening at the quarterback position.

However, the Patriots are reportedly interested in signing free agent Marcus Mariota this offseason, according to Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network. Pauline also mentioned that the Indianapolis Colts are interested in Mariota as well.

Here's what Pauline said:

“Keep this in the back of your mind – with all the uncertainty surrounding Tom Brady, the New England Patriots are showing interest in soon to be free agent quarterback Marcus Mariota. The former first-round pick is being courted by several teams who may have an open competition at quarterback. I’m told the Indianapolis Colts have also shown interest in Mariota – just in case.”

Mariota was the No. 2 overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft, selected by the Tennessee Titans. However, the former Heisman winner has struggled to stay healthy and hasn't quite lived up to his expectations. Last season, Mariota was demoted as a backup quarterback after having several poor performances.

Nonetheless, the Patriots staff most likely sees potential in the 26-year-old. Mariota could also get a second chance to prove himself under Bill Belichick and his staff. In his five year career, he's recorded 62.9 percent of his passes for 13,207 yards and 76 touchdowns. In addition, he's averaging 5.8 yards per rush for 1,399 career rushing yards in five seasons.

It seems like Brady is getting ready to leave the Patriots next month. Brady's representation is already scheduled to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Indianapolis Colts.
