Did you really think that we could count out the New England Patriots this season? Twenty years of dominance from Bill Belichick should have taught you better.

The Patriots are rolling as of late, winning three of their last four games, trying to make that four in their last five. After a touchdown run by former MVP quarterback Cam Newton, New England saw another score soon afterwards—this time on special teams.

Return man Gunner Olszewski returned a punt 70 yards to the house to extend the Patriots' lead against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Patriots are a defensive-focused team, so a 14-point lead is an enormous cushion. It will be difficult for Justin Herbert to climb out of this hole.

Belichick is also one of the best coaches when it comes to taking advantage of rookie quarterbacks. Belichick is known for throwing complex coverages and different looks at rookie passers to confuse the offense. He is 19-5 all time against the young breed.

A win would move the Patriots to 6-6 putting them right in the thick of things for that last AFC Wild Card spot. If anyone can do it, it's the Patriots.

The Patriots have had one of the best defenses in the NFL despite missing Stephon Gilmore for most of the season. Cornerback JC Jackson is making his own case for Defensive Player of the Year, with an incredible six interceptions so far this season. He has been excellent in place of Gilmore.

Overall, the Patriots need to win this game to stay alive. They could very well do that, thanks to the help of Olszewski's punt return TD.

Wouldn't that be a story? After starting 2-5, Bill Belichick and Cam Newton find a way to sneak into the playoffs. Some things just never change.
