Once upon a time, the New England Patriots selected a quarterback out of Kent State in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

That quarterback was Julian Edelman, who is now Tom Brady's No. 1 target in the passing game.

Obviously, Edelman never had a real shot of playing quarterback on the NFL level, so it makes you wonder how Brady felt when the Patriots decided to use a draft pick on him a decade ago.

Well, naturally, Brady wasn't threatened at all:

During Edelman's final year at Kent State, he threw for 1,820 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 55.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 118.8.

So, yeah; those aren't exactly the numbers you would expect from a guy with aspirations of being under center for a pro football team.

But at the very least, Edelman has developed into one of the league's most sure-handed wide outs.

The 33-year-old went on to catch 37 passes for 359 yards and a touchdown during his rookie campaign, and after primarily serving as a special teams guy for the first several years of his career, he broke out as a receiver in 2013, hauling in 105 receptions for 1,056 yards and six scores.

Ever since then, Edelman has been an integral part of the Patriots' offense and is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he snared 74 balls for 850 yards while reaching the end zone six times.

He then went on to log 26 catches for 388 yards during New England's playoff run to a sixth Super Bowl title and also snagged Super Bowl MVP honors after finishing with 10 receptions for 141 yards in a 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
