The recent firing of New Orleans Pelicans general manager Dell Demps could put head coach Alvin Gentry's job at risk — not immediately, but rather once ownerships finds a high-ranking executive to take Dells' vacant spot.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski went on SportsCenter to clarify the reasons for Dells' firing, saying that the organization is pleased with Gentry, but all could be in the air once a new face of the front office arrives.

“The ownership has been pleased with him and how the players have responded. They think the players are still willing to play hard for him despite of all that’s happened,” said Wojnarowski minutes after tweeting out the details of the move. “But then you’re looking at a new general manager, a new staff who may want to bring in their own coach.”

Revamped front offices often look for a way to start anew and to make the current regime one that is completely theirs, often resulting in general managers choosing to part ways with a coach in hopes to bring in their own personnel.

Gentry is well-liked in New Orleans and among the organization, but it could prove tough to pitch an executive into having authority and not letting him fully exercise it once he's given the job.

The former Golden State Warriors assistant could be an accidental victim of this New Orleans rebuilding process, and by no fault of his own — as he has catered to the organization's orders and done his best to keep an otherwise tumultuous situation under calmer waters.
