The New Orleans Pelicans’ all-around big man Anthony Davis reached a big milestone Friday night. With yet another strong performance, he is now the franchise’s new all-time leader in points, surpassing David West.

In the 114-100 road win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Davis scored a game-high 43 points on 17-for-34 shooting to go along 10 rebounds, three steals, and one block. His career points are at 8,702 following the game.

The feat is Davis’ sixth all-time team record; the previous ones he had set are free throws made, free throw attempts, defensive rebounds, total rebounds, and blocks.

We should see the Pelicans superstar continue breaking records in the coming years, as he is well-equipped to do so. Among all the bigs in the NBA, his command on both sides of the floor has arguably been second to none.

The next key stat categories he is close to, which are also currently held by West, are games, field goals, 2-point field goals, and offensive rebounds.

Of course, although such accolades are good for his legacy, it’s postseason glory that he’s aiming hard for. That challenge is again as tough as it was in years past, with his running mate, DeMarcus Cousins, out for the whole season.

It is great anticipating how well the group will respond to the obstacle. Although the Pelicans have missed the playoffs in the last two years and only have one winning season since Davis arrived in the 2012-13 campaign, both unflattering trends are appearing to get trampled this season. The Pels are 28-23 and currently roaming around the sixth, seventh, and eighth seeds in the Western Conference.
