New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis is slated to meet with new executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin on Wednesday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

This will likely be Griffin's only shot to convince Davis to stay, something he claimed he would try to do upon taking the job.

While the odds don't look good for Griffin, it is required due diligence to go through with this meeting and see where things stand with Davis, who was used scarcely in the final stretch of the regular season after his trade request yielded no immediate returns.

The Pelicans still won a few games, even with Davis only playing limited minutes and sitting out a few games down the road, a chance that ultimately converted into the top overall pick of this upcoming 2019 NBA Draft.

Consensus first selection Zion Williamson is unlikely to change Davis' mind, as he essentially gave up on the organization when he first told former GM Dell Demps that he wouldn't re-sign with the team.

However, Griffin does have a strong relationship with Davis' new agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, whom he signed with this last summer. Griffin and Paul worked closely together in Cleveland, as Griffin tended to LeBron James' one-plus-one contractual matters during his tenure with the Cavaliers.

Davis was also seen working out alongside teammate Jrue Holiday and other Pelicans, leaving a smidge of hope that he would be willing to change his mind and give New Orleans one last shot.
